Hand-Printed Zip Case - Cherry Tomato Limited Run

Observations

The Signature Collection is my foundation. Intentionally few designs. Permanent. Built to last. Observations are different, because they add another layer by incorporating designs inspired by what I see and experience in Motril. Small things, small details, moments found in my surroundings that catch my attention and won't let go. I sketch these moments, carve them into Lino, and print them onto textiles in limited runs. They're tied to specific moments of paying attention.

This observation celebrates the Cherry Tomato.

This zip case holds your everyday essentials: keys, cards, lip balm, cash - whatever you use daily. Natural color, 100% cotton muslin exterior with hand-printed cherry tomato design. "Motril" is hand-carved and printed alongside - adding a small reminder of where this came from.

The interior is lined in cotton, in a few different colors. The zipper colors coordinate beautifully with the tomato design and the lining colors. Each case is numbered on the reverse side with hand-carved and printed series (1/20, 2/20, etc).

What it's inspired by:

There's just something about Motril, located on the Costa Tropical. If you've been here, you'll understand it; the light, the warmth, the abundance of fresh, local fruits and veggies year-round. I buy so much fresh produce from small, specialty shops that dot the city, and cherry tomatoes are a must-have in my kitchen at all times. Green vines with ripe, sweet little tomatoes clustered on them, just picked that morning. I appreciate their local importance and have certainly eaten my weight in cherry tomatoes over the years. For those reasons, I've decided to translate and celebrate this appreciation into a Lino-cut design. This is the first of my Observations Collection.

The design is hand-carved, then printed one by one onto each case, using traditional print methods. The weathered red and green colors complement the natural cotton beautifully. No two are exactly alike.

The details:

✔️ Machine-stitched construction 

✔️ 100% natural cotton muslin exterior, 180 g/m2, with interfacing and stabilizer for added structure

✔️ Hand-carved Lino designs (cherry tomatoes on the vine, Motril, and number in the limited series), each print is unique

✔️ Lining is 100% yarn-dyed cotton chambray, in Tilda Dots or Tilda Stripes, created and designed by Tone Finnanger

✔️ Donut zipper pulls with frayed canvas pull tabs

✔️ Dimensions: ~ 8..5" wide at top, 7" at bottom, 2" gusset, 7.5" zipper opening (21.6 cm x 17.8 cm, x 5.1 cm, 19 cm)

How it lives with you:

The cotton exterior develops a softer, lived-in feel the more you use it. Colors have been heat-set but may fade slightly over time which is part of its character. The hand-printed design is a small reminder that you're carrying something made by hand, with intention, by someone who was paying attention to the place she calls home.  

Limited Edition:

Only 20 are available. Each one is hand-printed and machine stitched for durability. Slight variations in ink coverage, placement, and lining/zipper combinations make each case unique. This particular design with its lining and zipper color combos will not be repeated.

Care:

Hand wash gently in cool water as needed. Do not use bleach. Do not scrub the design. Air dry. The cotton will naturally soften and develop character with use.
